Have a good weekend! In this week's article, we will talk about the wonderful Portuguese gastronomy!
Our gastronomy is recognized worldwide, with Atlantic and Mediterranean influences, as evidenced by the amount of fish traditionally consumed. At the base of our gastronomy are bread, wine, and olive oil, with vegetables added, and pork is also used extensively in our cuisine. Maritime discoveries integrated the use of spices, sugar, beans, and potatoes, which became essential products.
Portugal and its gastronomy have left their mark in various countries around the world, such as Brazil, India, and Japan (among others). In Brazil, Portugal left its culinary influence, with variations of feijoada and caldeirada. Refined sugar arrived in Japan, brought by the Portuguese, leading to adaptations such as angel hair, or an adaptation of the famous "pão de ló."
In 2015, the Assembly of the Republic unanimously approved the establishment of the National Day of Portuguese Gastronomy, on the last Sunday of May. This day recognizes the importance of our wonderful gastronomy as an economic, cultural, and social element.
